How to discuss social media with peers unfamiliar with the topic

Over at Marketing Profs Daily Fix, Amber Naslund presents six keys to discussing social media with others in the workplace less familiar with the topic.
Her points include:
Losing the jargon: “Social media” can be an intimidating term, as can topics like Twitter, community and Facebook. Instead of these terms, Amber suggests focusing the conversation on what these tools actually do rather than framing them in buzzwords.
Listening and benchmarking: Amber recommends setting up “listening posts” using tools such as Google Alerts and running searches on Twitter for 30 days. Regardless of the results, this provides some initial metrics when evaluating the existing social media activity related to the organization.
Articulating goals: Make it easier for everyone to understand the value of engaging in social media by establishing goals at the outset. As Amber says, “There’s absolutely no way you can measure your success unless you set the goal first.”
